Trigedasleng Translator

Trigedasleng is the constructed language of the Grounders in The 100), the CW series that ran from 2014 to 2020. It was created by David J. Peterson, the same conlanger who built Dothraki and High Valyrian for Game of Thrones. Trigedasleng is a post-apocalyptic English creole, descended from English but evolved over 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse. The translator splits your input into tokens, preserving whitespace and punctuation. It tries multi-word phrases first, matching the longest phrase before falling back to single-word lookup. In English-to-Trigedasleng mode, the dictionary maps English words like "blood" to "jus" and "commander" to "heda". In Trigedasleng-to-English mode, the reverse lookup runs. Words not found in the dictionary pass through unchanged. Non-word tokens (spaces, punctuation, line breaks) are preserved exactly. The mode setting syncs to a URL query parameter, so you can share a link that preserves your configuration. The vocabulary includes proper nouns from the show like "skaikru" (Sky People), "maunon" (Mountain Men), and "azgeda" (Ice Nation).

Trigedasleng was created by David J. Peterson for The 100, which was developed by Jason Rothenberg from Kass Morgan's novels). According to the Wikipedia article on Trigedasleng, it is a post-apocalyptic English creole. The in-universe backstory is that English evolved over 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse, with the Grounders developing their own dialect. Peterson has stated it is the most phonologically divergent English-derived conlang he has created.

The language has its own vocabulary and grammar but is mutually intelligible with English at the root level. Many Trigedasleng words are phonologically shifted English words. For example, "ai" derives from "I", "yu" from "you", and "laik" from "like". The grammar simplifies English verb conjugation and uses particles like "na" for future tense and "don" for past tense. The 100 ran for 7 seasons on the CW from 2014 to 2020. A prequel called "Second Dawn" was developed but canceled by the CW in November 2021. No revival or reboot has been announced as of 2026. The vocabulary covers attested words from the show, roughly 45 entries. Words outside the dictionary pass through unchanged.
